~~Special is very loosely adapted from ‟Chase a Crooked Shadow‟, British movie from 1958. It's more like an inspiration for some suspense tricks and themes, than literal adaptation of it. Asako gets a telegram on her birthday celebration. It's, however, unusual, because the sender is her late brother Hiro, who has been dead for two years.
