Shimura Yumi is the daughter of a plastic surgeon and was born in Tokyo. When she was 10 years old, her mother, Akagi Toyoko, ran away with a younger man, leaving Yumi behind with her father, Seiko. Toyoko and Seiko divorced and subsequently Seiko remarried his lover, Fujiko, who works as a nurse at his clinic. Yumi and Fujiko don't get along well, and as soon she started university, she decided to move into the college's dormitory. There, she met her new roommate, Takamichi Maiko, who comes from an wealthy family. They became besfriends, but deep down inside, Yumi is actually very envious of Maiko and harbors a deep resentment towards her. Maiko has the perfect upbringing, comes from a prominent family and her inherent goodness radiates from within. Compared to these, Yumi comes from a broken home, and she feels that her lot in life is way inferior. One day, a new roommate is added to their room. She is none other than Kano Seria, an ex-high schoolmate of Yumi's. Seria was always comparing herself to Yumi back then, and was actually bullied by others. The trauma of coming up short against Yumi made Seria go for a head-to-toe cosmetic surgery that resulted in a new beautiful face and perfect body.
