In a small town deep in the great Khingan Mountains lived a man named Jia Er, who has lived by logging all his life. He is about to face the choice of staying or leaving because of the ban on logging. The day before he stopped logging, he was going up the mountain to pull wood for the last time. People of all kinds asked him about his future choices, and he seemed hesitant because of the long-standing conflict with his son Jia Ming. Just as he was on his way down the mountain, something unexpected happened. Jia Ming heard the news of his father's death and returned to his hometown where he had fled.
