The story revolves around Yuan Mo, A Shu, Wang Kun Wu, and Yu Chi Hua, four aspirational individuals confined in a small realm who courageously strive for their ideals, country, and justice. During the Anping era of the Dayong Dynasty, Yuan Mo, a commoner from Changle City, is at the city gate issuing certificates to foreign visitors using the Sifang Pavilion seal. Unexpectedly, he encounters A Shu, a refugee from the state of Yanle, attempting to sneak into the city. Due to a mistake, Yuan Mo is punished and assigned to work under Wang Kun Wu, a border general newly appointed to the Sifang Pavilion. From then on, Yuan Mo faces several ‟hardships‟: he is pulled into working in the Sifang Pavilion's West Courtyard by the head of the pavilion, Yu De Shui, who takes advantage of his carefree and wine-loving nature, becoming a minor official handling foreign affairs. By a twist of fate, A Shu becomes Yuan Mo's ‟little maid,‟ and Wang Kun Wu becomes his superior. Moreover, Yu Chi Hua, a powerful woman from a noble family, also arrives to take charge. Yuan Mo, mocked as a ‟useless person‟ in the West Courtyard, gradually matures by dealing with one tricky diplomatic issue after another...
