Set against the backdrop of the Cultural Revolution in the 1970s, Hawthorn Tree Forever follows an introverted high school girl, who is sent down to a small village to write teaching material. Taking lodge at the home of the village head, Jing Qiu meets ‟Lao San‟ Sun Jian Xin from the excavation team, who can play her favorite Soviet folk song on the accordion.
