Kunie, the daughter of blind koto master Kikuzawa Toshihisa, was seen as her father's successor. One day, Tsubouchi Joji, an American embassy employee and third-generation Japanese American who is dating Kunieda, decides to work in his home country and proposes to Kunie. However, Toshihisa refuses to approve of their marriage, so Kunie decides to marry Joji in the United States.
