One day, Enjoji Ritsuko, a forensic scientist at the Kyoto Minami Police Station, notices a man standing at the entrance of the station looking troubled. The man, Imai Ryota, a café owner, says that he has come to consult with the police because an employee, Erika Usami, has been absent from work for the past two days without notice. When he called Erika's parents' home, a man who claimed to be her father responded that his daughter was away on a trip. But Ryota says that he found blood on the front door of the apartment where Erika lives alone.
