Set before and during the Kuomintang Islamic insurgency, Kazakh herdsman Yerhanat was gifted a strong lilac horse from a Chinese merchant. However, it caught the attention of a pro-Kuomintang reactionary and caused Yerhanat's family to be persecuted, resulting in his exile to the mountains.
