Julie and Alex fell in love during high school. Until Alex passed the Philippine Military Academy, he gave Julie his PMA pendant, and in return she gave him her cross pendant (given by her grandmother). But the pendant was snatched, and Julie felt sad at the same time strange, thinking something bad would happen. And true enough, their love didn't push through when Alex became a soldier and died during the war. Alex was wearing Julie's pendant during the time that he died. Devastated, Julie vowed never to love again and continued to read William's letter to her. But her promise was bound to be broken when she met a man who has the same qualities as her previous love. Coincidentally enough, both man have the same name - Alexander. He even gave Julie another pendant (a heart locket) to remind her about his unending love. Endeared by these similarities, Julie immediately fell for the new man but as time goes by, she realized that she was loving him because he served as a reminder of her past love and felt guilty for loving him. She turned him down and went to Alex' grave to ask for a sign. But the second Alex (a.ka. Ande) was inconsolable. Determined to win Julie's heart, he proved himself to be different and soon, Julie, eager to start a new life with her new love, she kept Ande's pendant close to her heart, burned her first love's letters to prove that she loved Ande for who he is and not because he is a mere reminder of her past love.
