Japan Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1965. While many Japanese orchestras have mainly played German music, they performed Japanese composers' works, representing as the orchestras of Japan, ans received the attention of music lovers since the beginning. However, in March 1972, the 16th year of its founding, the management, Fuji Television and Nippon Cultural Broadcasting, declared that they would end the support for the symphony orchestra. In June of the same year, the Orchestra Foundation was disbanded and all the band members were dismissed. In the hope of survival, the orchestra activities continued under the management of the orchestra members themselves, with the slogan of ‟With the citizens‟, in a number of difficult situations.
