Three sisters of the Fujieda family return to a mountain village where patriarchal traditions remain in place. Their mother and grandmother welcome them home at a time when a festival will take place. This is a festival where only the men are allowed to carry the portable shrines. The women prepare the hospitality. There are no men in the Fujieda family. The eldest sister is 40 and unmarried. The middle sister has a high school-age daughter but no partner.
