Carrying forward the ‟Red Boat Spirit,‟ the story follows the inception, development and growth of the Communist Party of China in the ten years beginning from the May Fourth Movement in 1919 until the victory in Jinggangshan in 1928. In 1919, the May Fourth Movement grew out of student protests in Beijing. Chen Du Xiu who was the editor-in-chief of the influential ‟New Youth‟ was arrested and imprisoned for the protests he made against the Beiyang warlord over their treatment of students. Located far away in Changsha, Mao Ze Dong, He Shu Heng and other individuals mobilize to launch a rescue campaign. After he was secretly moved to Shanghai through Li Da Zhao’s efforts, Chen Du Xiu finally realized that the only way to save China was to overthrow the ruling authority. Subsequently, a small group of Communist supporters was established in Shanghai to prepare for the convening of a large meeting. Due to interference by the police in the French Concession, the meeting was relocated to a ship in South Lake, Jiaxing.
