Revanchist, set in the not-so-distant past, follows two young brothers as they attempt to make it in Shanghai. After rescuing a respected gang leader from an assassination attempt, they are inducted into a powerful triad sect. Flash forward a decade, the brothers are grown up and rising in the ranks, but their success is shattered by a violent incident. While working security in a brothel, the younger brother, Fay (Chang Jian-Li), becomes embroiled in an argument with a racist foreigner. In the heat of the moment, he shoots the filthy gweilo dead. His older brother, Fong (Lau Sek-Ming), takes the murder rap and is sent to prison leaving Fay to raise the money to get him out (because Shanghai is super corrupt like that).
