Seventeen years ago, a child was kidnapped from the home of a Kyoto Yuzen dyeing artist, Katsuragi Sawako. However, the perpetrator died and the child went missing, with Sawako spending her days devoted to Yuzen dyeing in order to forget the incident. Seventeen years have passed since then. Kitahara Ryoko is in her third year of high school and is a member of the high school swimming club. Her father, Fumio, is the president of Kitahara Publishing, a publishing company that has been in business for generations, but the company is in such bad shape that its survival is in question. Ryoko, however, is not Fumio's biological daughter. She was left in front of the Kitahara family gate 17 years ago and was picked up and raised by Fumio alone.
