In the dead of night, Yu Wangran, the old curater of the Archives, sees a female ghost dressed in red, and dies of a heart attack. The next day, his grandson Yu Hui recieves a book called ‟History of the Red Chamber‟ from the new curator. The book was read by his grandfather in the last moments of his life. The book contains a photo of a beautiful woman during the Republic of China, and he is instantly taken to the distant Peiping. There, old Yu, who is on duty in the Red Mansion, and his buddies invite Die Xian, but they attract a soul who claims to be Hu Siren. Hu Siren confides his grievances, finally gives in to old Yu Sanyuan, and tells him to go to Hujiayu to find his daughter Hu Mei, so that he can be burried in peace. The old Yu find his son Yu Wangran, and despite his lingering fears, sends him to Hujiayu. After a lot of twists and turns, he finally arrives at this desolate place, and agrees with Hu Mei to find the bones of old Hu and uncover the truth of the incident. In the process, spooky events happen in the Red Chamber, one after another, and terrible secrets surface.
