The Children Are Home is thematically about overseas Chinese who return to the country to establish themselves, focusing on the ideals and aspirations of those born in the 80's and 90's. Zhang Jia Chao, Jiang Meng Meng and Zhang Zhao Yang are cousins. Jia Chao is forced to return home because of her mother's health problem. Meng Meng returns after her schooling.
