Mukai Takeru, born into the family of a kiln owner specializing in the traditional craft of Kosai-yaki in Tochigi Prefecture, a craft with roots dating back to the Edo period, dreams of becoming an adventure novelist. Despite his parents' objections, he moves to Tokyo immediately after completing high school. However, faced with the harsh realities of life—filled with rejections and strenuous physical labor—he eventually decides to abandon his dreams and return to his hometown. Upon his return, 15 years later, Takeru, once estranged from old friends and disowned by his father, reunites with them.
