Enami Keiko is a student in a missionary school for girls with a curriculum that emphasises Western values based on individual character development. She is a rebel and a bright one. Having started life as an illegitimate child, she makes claims about life that society considers illegitimate, too. She falls in love with her teacher and lets everyone know it. The teacher, Masaki, who has also charmed a colleague, Hashimoto, is torn between these two women, and he feels called upon to choose between being a teacher and being a man. ~~ Adapted from the novel ‟Wakai Hito‟ (若い人) by Ishizaka Yojiro (石坂洋次郎).
