Murakami Fui, who was predeceased by her husband, has been raising her son, Kozo, who was born with a physical disability, all by herself. One day, Kozo is introduced by a classmate in junior high school and decides to organize the library of Keiichiro Shirakawa, the director of Shirakawa Hospital, who lives in Kokura. There, he learns that Mori Ogai's diary for the four years he was posted to Kokura as a military doctor, has been lost. Kozo embarked on an investigation to fill the void left by the four-year ‟Ogura Diary‟.
