At the time of King Sung Jong, the ninth king of the Joseon Dynasty, the abusive Confucian ideals of 'the seven valid grounds of divorce' and 'domination of men over women' were becoming outdated. During this time, a young maiden of noble birth named Eoh Wu Dong was in love with a man of low station. In defiance against the rules of the noble class, Wu Dong runs away from her marriage and chooses death. A woman named Hyang Ji rescues Wu Dong from the claws of death. Brought together by fate, Wu Dong becomes a kisaeng. Using her body as bait, Wu Dong makes the nobility slaves of sex and starts to fight history's incorrect conventions. Meanwhile, being afraid of their family's name and dignity, Wu Dong's husband's family hires assassins to try to get rid of Wu Dong but she escapes with the help of her first love. Wu Dong and her first love commit suicide together for the freedom of love.
