Travel writer Chaya Jiro is visited by his ex-wife, Kazuko. Kazuko has doubts about the cause of death of her uncle, Wasaburo, who fell to his death in the Kumano River in Wakayama two weeks earlier, and asks Jiro to accompany her to Kumano.
