This story takes place during the end of the Qing Dynasty and centers on the love story between Princess Yun Xiang and Wen Liang Yu. Separated the night they'd planned to elope, Yun Xiang was rescued by an enemy of the imperial family, Fang Tian Yu. Tian Yu falls for Yun Xiang and frequently comes between Yun Xiang and Liang Yu, going as far as plotting to kill Liang Yu. Yun Xiang thinks Liang Yu has perished and tries to kill Tian Yu for revenge but ends up on death row. Wealthy official Shen Shi Hao also loves Yun Xiang and saves her, at which time Yun Xiang discovers she's pregnant with Liang Yu's child. She marries Shi Hao in gratitude. Eighteen years later, Liang Yu returns as Beijing's most prominent mob ringleader. Unbeknownst to him, his son with Yun Xiang, Shen Zi Kang, has grown up and become a police captain dead set on capturing Liang Yu.
